What we do in Great Art Start
Great Art Start classes provide a solid foundation for artmaking across a variety of mediums. Students create unique original works of art, that highlight their way of seeing the world. We use a combination of observation and imagination to express our artistic intentions.
- Each lesson starts as a group with a demonstration and discussion designed to help the students individualize their artistic intentions including exposure to professional artists who have work that corresponds with the lesson’s theme.
- The students then gather their materials and begin. As the children create, I will help them recognize when they have made new discoveries about the materials, and guide them to make more and more detailed choices.
- The class will all get a chance to share their daily processes with their peers.
- After exercising responsibility in the clean up of materials, students will be given a clue to the theme of the next lesson in addition to a folder containing vocabulary and artists discussed that day.
